Today's visitors are spoiled by the fast Internet. Imagine a potential customer who finds your competitor's site. If the competitor's site launches immediately but yours loads five seconds slower — then you are deemed to have lost a customer. Of course, on modern computers even the cheapest web solutions do not seem to be too slow. Just a moment. First, let's take into account that the load capacity in 20 requests per second is not 20 pages per second, as one page usually needs 3-5 requests per second. That is 5-7 pages per second. Next, let's consider the fact that measurements are made by the manufacturer under ideal conditions: the latest and most powerful $10 000 server with a minimum page size, lacking actual content and requests made to one page only and so on and so forth. Real figures are 3-5 times smaller. This is about 1-2 pages per second. Suddenly the millions vanish.

Above all previously said let us mention that users visit your site unevenly during the day. The visiting peaks come in fairly limited time. Our experience shows that the peak load is 4-10 times higher than the average traffic. That means that during the peak your site can handle all... three visitors per minute!

And this is not all. The biggest problem will strike when you start advertising your site. Attendance will rise dramatically; ordinary CMS will not be able to cope with the load. As a result you will have wasted money on advertising and have even made your image worse. After all, customers tired to browse the broken site are unlikely to form a good opinion of your company.
